For this 1940’s makeup/hair project, Rio delved into WW2 rations and how they affected the world of beauty and the standards that they created. Hygiene, health, and strength were emphasized heavily, and the desire for natural beauty was stronger than ever. Rio drew inspiration from stars of the period, such as Hedy Lamarr and Rita Hayworth, while also considering what the average woman would have had access to and how she would carry herself.
